Fall Classic at Yakima Speedway

October 3 and 4, 2009

We left Horsethief Lake on Friday, October 2 to drive up to Yakima for the Fall Classic. The Fall Classic is a weekend filled with stock car racing. They have racing in several categories: Street Stock, Hobby Stock, Limited Late Models, Super Four, and Late Models.

We boondocked (camped without hookups) in the parking lot.

It was windy and cold, but Bob managed to stay warm in his snowmobile suit.

K.C.’s favorite race is the Late Models. There were 41 cars racing on the half-mile paved oval.

With 41 cars on the track, we had a little bit of everything – good racing, a car fire, several blown engines, some spinouts and one spectacular wreck.

Uh oh, somebody spun out. Fly the caution flag.

When Alex figured out who was to blame for a spinout, he didn’t hesitate to let them know as they drove by. He would point that caution flag right at them. Way cute.

Patty thinks stock car racing is too noisy and just plain dumb. She has no time for it.

Besides, the speedway parking lot has goat heads that hurt her feet. She is happy that we are now back at Horsethief Lake where the dog smells are good and Bob takes her out early in the morning to see the sun rise over Horsethief.

It was a weekend of fun with family and friends. We’ll be here at Horsethief for a couple of weeks. It has a dentist appointment on the 16th. As soon as her appointment is over, we’ll be on the road south!

We are camped at Horsethief Lake State Park in Washington. We’ll be in this area for a few more weeks so that we can finish up doctor and dentist appointments. Some time in mid-October, we’ll be heading south again so stay tuned for new adventures!

Horsethief State Park is in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. We are in a small campground with only eight campsights. It is very pretty here, but unfortunately the wind howls through here half the time. I guess that is why this area is known for great windsurfing.

A lot of people come and climb the bluffs around horsethief.

We always enjoy staying at Horsethief. It’s small, quiet and close to the old home town.

Washington – Long Beach Peninsula

While our motorhome was in the shop, our friends Roxie and Rus loaned us their place at the beach. We drove over to Long Beach, Washington. While there, we met Vernamae, Carla, Mike, Eldon, and Karen at McDonald’s for breakfast. Later we had dinner at Vernamae, Carla and Mike’s house. It was sure nice seeing everybody.

We also drove across the mouth of the Columbia to Astoria, Oregon to visit K.C.’s son, Joe. Joe, his wife Tamara, and their son, Atreyu recently bought a big, ole, historical house in Astoria. We toured the house and had a good visit with Joe and Atreyu. Unfortunately, Tamara had to work and couldn’t break away while we were there.

On the way home from Astoria, we had lunch at a riverfront restaurant. Several ocean liners powered right past our window.

The weather while we were there was warm – even hot. This doesn’t often happen on the Washington coast! We took advantage of the weather and spent an afternoon at the beach. Bob almost got his toes in the water when a wave creeped up the beach to where we were sitting. Here’s K.C. wading in the Pacific.

On Thursday, we got word that our motorhome was finished so we headed on back to pick it up. Many thanks to Roxie and Russ for letting us use their beach place!

Washington – Lyle; All-School Reunion

All School Reunion

We arrived home in Lyle in June and spent most of June and July sorting, packing, selling items, and cleaning out the house in preparation for leasing it out. We did take time off for a few things including going to the Lyle All-School Reunion.

It was a fun evening with good food at the Shilo Inn in The Dalles. We visited with friends and teachers and teachers who are friends.

Char and Wenda were there. Our parents played cards and fished together so we spent many a Sunday afternoon together while we were growing up. Wenda and K.C. were in the same class, and Char was always the informative older sister.

K.C. and Jackie have been friends from way back. We danced and cheerleaded together from the time we were little girls all the way through high school. Jackie was there with her father, Jack, and her husband Jim.
