Winter of 2008 found K.C. and Bob at home in Lyle.  The Kram-A-Lott Inn is not happy too be here.

Andy and Kristen enjoy the snow in Lyle in 2008.

Christmas at Long Beach, Washington 2007

Monday, December 24th, 2007

Bob and I are camped in the 1000 Trails campground at Seaview, Washington which is on the Long Beach Peninsula.

We drove over between windstorms and have enjoyed sitting snug in our motorhome as storm after storm breaks on the beach.  Luckily for us, the worst winds have been from the south so they hit us head on and didn’t rock the motorhome too much.

Today is Christmas Eve and we are having waves of storms with torrential rains one minute and sunny bright weather the next.  It’s pretty interesting!

We took a trip over through Astoria to Fort Stevens State Park.  We drove out to the Columbia River South Jetty.  There’s a platform there where you can climb up and watch the waves crash against the jetty.

Here I am descending from the platform.

Fort Stevens Campground has yurts for rent.  These have a light inside, a wall heater, a futon, and a bunkbed.  I’ve rented them a few times.  They’re fairly common at the Oregon State campgrounds and are a step up from tenting.  Bob thought they were pretty cool.  You can buy a yurt for your own back yard from a place in Corvallis, Oregon if you’re interested!

Fort Stevens also has some old military batteries that you can explore, miles of bike trails (or should I say Segway trails?); and even a shipwreck.  The Peter Iredale came ashore years ago and its wreckage is easy to get to and explore – in better weather of course!

They had a severe windstorm here a couple of weeks ago with winds upwards to 120 mph.  There are trees like this upended all over the peninsula.

That’s all for now.  Bob and I wish you a very Merry Christmas 2007.  Be warm, well and happy!
